  • I have been grateful for the variety of virtual classes offered through live virtual classes, replay classes, and YVTV. They are significantly different from each other (in terms of length and number of repeat poses) and offer flexibility in terms of when I can access them. Since the second full-fledged lockdown, my children have been home so having flexibility for access has been key to my practice. On a more crucial point, my entire family tested positive for Covid in mid-January (two weeks into the third lockdown!) and these virtual classes have been very helpful in overcoming my shortness of breath. I would not recommend practicing yoga if you are poorly, have a fever, or if you don't have an established practice, but for those who get on mats everyday and feel okay despite testing positive, yoga could be a saver. I realised that the tightness in my chest was relieved to a great extent after I got off the mat and had a lasting effect. I believe this is due to the discipline you have to apply to breathing which helps moderate that restricted feeling. I then discovered that the NHS website provides breathing exercises as well but I found it hard to apply these over a sustained period of time and difficult to implement in the absence of movement. I also found that yoga helped with the muscle pain. In either case, I'm grateful for YV and can't wait to be reunited with the studio, teachers, and hot room comrades.
