I struggled a bit with this review because there were positive aspects, such as Priscilla, my technician, who was so sweet and very friendly. However, there were a number of things that I didn't love about this place. But, in the interest of starting off on a positive note, let's begin with the pros:
Location. Very conveniently situated in a shopping center right on Broadway. Yaax was super easy to find, and there is plenty of parking in the lot.
Attitude of staff. As I mentioned, Priscilla was lovely, as was everyone else that worked in the salon. Very friendly, always smiling, etc. Priscilla also asked me if I was satisfied with my pedicure right after she finished polishing me, and if I wanted anything fixed or done differently. Also, I never felt rushed, even though I was the last appointment. Priscilla took her time, and worked slowly and carefully both on my feet and my gel mani.
Cons:
The gel colors that they offer are kind of limited in terms of selection compared to many other salons. Also, they don't have a wheel for you to look at to see what the colors look like once they actually dry. So, for many of the colors, you have to pray that the small color patch on the bottle will match the final result of your nails. In terms of the regular nail polish selection, this is in need of a major overhaul. Hardly any Essie colors, only a handful of OPI colors, and the color selection itself was pretty sad. Had I known that the selection would have been so limited, I would have brought my own polish with me. I settled for an OPI color to go on my toes, which I can't say I'm 100% in love with, but I know it will last for a decent amount of time because of the brand.
Also, I'm big on sterilization and cleanliness. Perhaps I've watched one too many dateline and 20/20 episodes on how disgusting many of the tools in nail salons actually are, but whatever. The tools that were used on me were taken out of a small drawer. Were they sterilized before being used on me? Who knows. I'm actually cringing thinking about it. I'm used to tools being taken out of a container under a light to sterilize them at a minimum. The best is when they are directly taken out of a sealed, sterile package. Neither one was the case here, however, which really turned me off. I will say that Priscilla disinfected the pedi chair after she was done with me, but its still very important to show your customers (IMO) that the tools they are using on you are actually clean as well.
Overall, for the groupon price I paid, I was generally satisfied with how my mani/pedi came out. If I paid full price, it would be another story. I had to go home and clean up around my cuticles on my toes from where there was still some polish (I guess i didnt see it while at the salon) on my skin. No girl enjoys having to touch up her own pedi after getting one professionally done. As far as my gel mani, we'll see how it holds up. One or two of my nails look a little uneven in terms of color distribution, but overall it came out fine. Priscilla did mention that if it peels or chips within the two weeks, I can come back in and have her fix it, which I thought was nice.
If I go back, I will likely bring my own tools and polish.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica R.San Antonio, TX1310644Dec 24, 2016
I have mixed feelings about this place. Let's start with the pros. Priscilla, the lady that did my shellac manicure, was super nice. We chatted about our kids and the upcoming holidays and family. It was really nice to be able to get my nails done by someone who I can converse with. The location is conveniently located in a shopping center by the grocery store we go to. I had just bought some Starbucks, but they do offer you something to drink upon arrival. When we were checking out (we had a Groupon), Priscilla told my cousin and I that next time, we don't have to buy the actual Groupon, they'll honor the Groupon price if you buy their services straight from them. So that's cool. She also offered to fix our nails for free if anything happens to them before two weeks is up.
Now on the flip side, the selection of shellac polish colors is sparse. There's also no sample wheel of what the colors look like when they're dried so it was hard to tell what color I was actually choosing. The shade of red I picked didn't turn out to be the shade I really wanted. I wanted a brighter red for Christmas and ended up with a rusty red color. So I was disappointed with that. Also, I don't know if it the brand of polish or what, but the color on some of my nails isn't even. It's not really noticeable unless you stare at it, but I stare at it so I notice.
If I decide to come back here, it'll be for the customer service. But I'll probably bring my own color next time so at least I know what I'll be expecting.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Olga R.San Antonio, TX1033Oct 6, 2016
I was in your place few months ago and I was very pleased with service and owner was fantastic.
Two days ago I would have loved to get my groupon mani-pedi.
I tried to talk to the owner directly but she was to busy.
I understood that I have to pay $10 extra to split the service, but the front desk girl have no skills treating clients. She is in the service industry and she has an ATTITUDE. She is the only reason I did not stay. It would be better not to offer service through groupon if customers are not very welcome.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren S.Philadelphia, PA2269341Jun 23, 2017

I went there yesterday and had a great experience and my mani and pedi are beautiful! My 2 year olds nails look super cute too. Priscilla has herself two lifetime customers. Thank you.

I went to Yaax to get a bikini wax that I purchased on Groupon. They did a decent job, but were a little too quick about it. The lady waxing me also did not seem to speak English. This would be fine if I spoke Spanish, but I don't.

They were nice there and welcoming, however I just had a pedicure there yesterday and now I have a horribly infected toenail. It really bums me because I get pedicures all the time from another place but I figured I would try this salon out and sadly I get my first infection. I won't be going back especially with this experience.

I hate to say this but I did not have a good experience at this salon. My shellac chipped after one day, and after 3 days it was peeling off. The staff was nice, but not worth the time and money spent.
