Both Laser & IPL use a specific light beam to target hair follicles, causing permanent damage to the follicle so that hair cannot grow back. Before the treatment:

Avoid tanning and using sunless tanners for at least a month to prepare for laser hair removal. Refrain from plucking or waxing for at least 2-4 weeks prior to undergoing hair removal treatment. Shaving is fine.
Shave the area that will be treated, ideally a day or two before the treatment.
Clean the skin at the treatment area and leave it free of cosmetics, lotions and creams.
