Moxibustion, also called moxa treatment, is a traditional Chinese Medicine practice that originated in China and then spread to Japan and other Asian countries. It is performed by burning small cones of dried leaves on certain designated points of the body, generally the same points as those used in acupuncture.

Moxibustion is used for pain due to injury or arthritis, especially in "cold" patterns where the pain naturally feels better with the application of heat. Digestive problems and irregular elimination.
Moxibustion and acupuncture support the body/mind in its own healing processes. Originating in Asia over 2,000 years ago, it has become a modern practice in our western evidence-based system of effective healthcare.

It is considered safe and effective and is widely used throughout the world. This service may also include traditional acupuncture.

Traditional explanations of acupuncture discuss the treatments effect on improving the flow of "qi" or "as ki". By stimulating specific points on the body with heat, pressure, or very fine needles, acupuncture practitioners are able to restore healthy function, resolving symptoms and addressing disease.

This appointment can be a first time or follow up appointment where your acupuncturist assesses your needs and begins acupuncture treatment.

What to Expect:
Remain fully pr partially clothed while you rest on a heated (or not if you prefer) massage table. You will be covered and warm. Our acupuncturist will complete an intake and address your concerns with the small moxa burnings, cupping and acupressure. Moxa will feel warm but not burning or painful on your skin. If needles are requested, ultra-thin needles will also be inserted. You will be left to rest with the needles inserted for a period of time and the therapist will check in to see how you are feeling. Use this time to meditate and rest.

Your acupuncturist at the end of the treatment will connect with you to discuss longer term treatment goals and create a treatment plan.
