OUTSTANDING! Great facilities, awesome staff ! Impeccably clean equipment, cheap membership cost, WIFI and all new machines. It's never packed, and the staff are always ready to help you reach your goals. There are multiple studios for classes, cross fit areas and equipment, a nice free weight area and tons of cardio and Cybex machines.
It's a laid back, welcoming, clean facility with a mixture of clients that range from young to retirees. Other gyms can be intimidating, lots of people trying to impress each other, trying to date each other, being brutes. The work out company is different. It's a community filled with locals who love fitness, from casual exercise to intense weight lifting. People greet each other and talk to each other, as a community should.
In addition, the work out company supports our special needs residents through work experience. This place has heart !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew G.Normal, IL55503Mar 25, 2015
This is what I expect from a healthclub. No, it is not brand-spanking new, like other places, but it is SOLID. They have a good assortment of equipment, free weights, cardio machines, and the facilities are good. But honestly, that's not the point of a workout club.
You see, the one thing you'll get from the Workout Company that you simply can't get anywhere else in town is a community. The people who go to the workout company, like the people who work there, are invested in the club, and each other. The classes are open and warm, the instructors are knowledgeable and fun, and not a week goes by that I don't hear about a new community event that's being held.
A special mention about Michael, one of the instructors. He's got energy and joie de vivre like no other, and his classes are always fun to be a part of.
Of all the things that will keep you coming back to a health club, involvement and investment are it. Sure, your monthly fee is an investment, but in the end, it's easily forgotten about. Becoming invested in your health is what the Workout Company drives you towards, as well as becoming invested in your community. Long story short, this is the club you've been looking for.
One last note, to the one-star review posted by D S below, it's definitely apparent that, as they've said, they were a member "years ago". Hopefully they give the place a second chance to see exactly how much it's changed since then.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I gotta give a shout out to my trainer JK McLeod because he's been working with me for 20 sessions. If you want results, come here for personal training. I've never had a trainer before and I had my doubts but I was able to set so many PR's, cut my benchmark in half, and learned a ton. Thank you JK, Maddie and everyone else at the Workout Co!

So I contacted the hiring manager to see if there was employment opportunities and she got back to me, scheduled me an interview, and said that she wanted me to shadow some of the trainers for a couple of times to possibly hire me. She also had me sign a waiver which said that I could use the gym whenever I wanted. Well, she never gave me the chance to shadow any trainers...in fact the night before I was supposed to shadow, I received an email from her saying that she already found someone else to hire...alright, I thought that it was very unfair since I wasn't given that chance. I don't want to assume anything but was it because I wasn't white...?
So I continued to use the facility on the weekends since I signed the waiver form that allowed me to go to the club whenever. The owner never had a problem with it and in fact, he was very friendly to me. However, I was approached by a woman who I think is the manager of he club, and said that my free trial is over...excuse me, from what I was told, signing that waiver wasn't a free trial at all. And that was what I told her and she seemed very threatening. I don't even know how that woman knew my name- I have never met her at all.
Long story short, it was a good gym facility and the owner was beyond pleasant and I really liked the owner. But if that manager woman who had such an issue with me signing the waiver from the very beginning, she should've done something about changing policies a long time ago so there would be no confusion
And just throwing it out there, but there were a few times where I was approached by clients at the gym saying that they wish I was their personal trainer...hmm, maybe they should've given me the chance to actually shadow trainers and show them my techniques rather than getting me extremely excited and all of a sudden, taking that opportunity away from me without any explanation.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi J,
As we explained in November over the phone and over email, our trial memberships are for a limited time only (everyone who uses the gym signs a waiver, and that does not affect the length of time for your trial membership). I do apologize for the inconvenience and miscommunication about this! We'll definitely do our best to avoid misunderstanding like this in the future.
I'm also sorry we did not have a Trainer position for you. Our Trainer scheduling tends to be complete fairly early in the semester, and the hiring process is pretty competitive -- especially for non-certified potential trainers who have limited availability during our busiest hours.
We are glad that your overall experience with the gym, and with our owner, was a positive one! - Ashley K.Bloomington, IL03Aug 2, 2016
I had wrote a bad review on how an issue wasn't handled correctly, and I'm updating it: I was finally contacted after trying to contact them many times by one of there managers named Laura! Even though it took so long to get back to me she jumped right in, and helped figure out what happened. Said she had a meeting with the staff, and she even met me on a Saturday to refund my money. She was extremely nice, and helpful. The workout company should really appreciate the work she puts in, and the fact that she seemed to be the only customer driven person there. I won't be returning to this gym, BUT this gym is a great place to workout. I loved my time there! This gym had the more personal feeling touch to it since it's not a huge corporation which I always liked. Almost a small town feeling!
They offer a bunch of different classes, personal training, or you can just kill your workout on your own. The ladies locker rooms are by far the BEST locker rooms I've ever seen! The added blow dryers, and little odd end stuff that ladies might need but forgot is a nice touch! Also, the smoothie bar with protein shakes where always so good!
I had a wonderful time at this gym while I was there, and will miss the great workout environment. Laura should really be appreciated as she is an asset to this company, and I hope they realize this. Thank you again Laura for your time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - D S.Chicago, IL690Jul 25, 2014
I was a member years ago and I hope things have changed since then. The atmosphere was very uncomfortable and it seems as if the staff didn't treat all the members the same. Even the owner wasn't friendly. I wouldn't recommend the gym if you don't look like everyone else there.

Why do I love this place? I have never once felt out of place or like I was alone in my journey toward a healthy lifestyle. The owners, staff, instructors, and members are friendly and encouraging. I love that the members are of all ages, sizes, and abilities. I love the variety of classes offered, (you can't beat Les Mills!), awesome, knowledgeable instructors, locally owned and operated. I also love the reformer classes and the personal training groups. Love how this gym gives back to the community!
