I've been to a lot of barber's around Australia and the world... I can say that 'The Bearded Man' is AT LEAST the #1 men's barber in Melbourne. Ricky looked after me today and he nailed it. And to the dude who made my coffee

Wasn't impressed with this hipster hive at all.

I am female, yes. I also have a short hairstyle that has been cut by barbers for years BUT at the bearded man I had to wait until a Thursday night for a appointment because I am female.

I waited until Thursday night for my cut only to have my request ignored by the "hairdresser" not a barber.

You know that moment when you feel the pit of your stomach fall. I experienced that while receiving a "pixie" cut, numerous times i expressed what I was looking for from my haircut and never did I ask for anything close to a pixie cut. I simply wanted a trim.

To rub salt into my wounds at the end of this experience I was charged $80 simply because I was female.

The next morning I went back to my usual barber "Brother Wolf" so they could fix what had been done. Best part the boys didn't charge me to fix what had been done, and as always offered me a beer.

Upscale and friendly; everyone was really nice to me from the check in to the actual haircut itself. The concept of coffee and a haircut was as foreign to me as I am to Australia. Not being a coffee drinker, I opted for water, but rarely found any time during my haircut to actually take a drink.

Ash was my barber and he was extraordinarily friendly. He is from the UK and traveling the world with his girlfriend, so we talked about our travels throughout the haircut.

In the end I was glad I had checked in on Yelp first for the 10% discount for first time visitors. $45 is about triple what I'm used to paying for a haircut back in the States (although from what I'm told, this is more common here).

The Bearded Man is a cool, hip and happening place on Chapel Street. From the moment you walk in the vibe is relaxing and welcoming, with great tunes overhead. I was greeted by Dave, the barber, and was offered a beverage of my choosing. I opted for a latte and before I finished 2 sips of that oh so wonderful brew, Dave was ready for me in his chair. Start to finish, Dave took splendid care of my beard and shaped it perfectly. I have been back 4 times now and each visit is as good as the first.
