If you have a short attention span or are constantly counting down the seconds until your workout ends when you hit the gym, Switch is great for you. You rotate through about 20 stations and you're at each station for all of 2 minutes. To break it down further, at each station you do a move for just 30 seconds before you're told to alternate to the second move. You can make yourself do almost any move for just 30 seconds, so pushing yourself through the pain becomes way more bearable. As anyone who works out knows, the pain is where change happens.
Between the two Switch locations, I've generally found the trainers to be friendlier at this Soho location and the exercises to be more thoughtfully put together. Now I'm sure this changes from class to class and month to month but that had been my experience. The layouts are similar enough and the concepts are exactly the same.
The yoga warm up is always a nice way to stretch it out and begin what turns out to be a very intense workout. I like that the stations alterate from strength based moves to cardio and back. The class goes by extremely fast and the live DJ plays the right kind of heart thumping music to keep the energy high.
You work at each station in pairs so it's especially fun to bring a buddy!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 7210659Aug 8, 2019
Completely obsessed. Such a fun workout. Even if you hate an exercise, it will be over in 2 minutes. The trainers are super attentive and motivating.
After a few weeks of classes, I impressed myself by being able to flip the tire... it's a hard workout, but you'll get results.
Oh. Warning the clientele is super attractive (which can be intimidating). According to their Insta they gave some connection with Elite Modeling Agency.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2019
I am an avid Class Passer and love trying new fitness classes. Switch is a fun, almost club like setting (think neon lights in a dark room with a DJ) that offers a very well rounded, full body workout. There are twenty stations and you spend 2 minutes at each station. The exercises vary from strength training to cardio machines. It's definitely never boring.
However, I do not recommend this class for those who are new to working out or strength training. Yes, they have trainers that are there to help you throughout the workout but it's so loud and happening so fast that it's not a great place to work on technique and is probably very easy for newbies to injure themselves. It's best if you have a base level knowledge on normal exercises like how to properly do a kettle bell swing or a deadlift so that you're not hurting yourself or wasting your short time at the station on form. I only go about once a week but it's good way to get in a full body work out and break up my cycle classes and runs.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angela H.New York, NY540268276May 6, 2019
I have been wanting to try switch for so long now and I am so happy I finally did! My brother was in town this weekend so a group of us decided to book a class here as we enjoy trying different workout studios together.
Now normally, I'm the girl who gets to class 30min early to avoid being rushed, dealing w crowds in and out of classes, etc. It just so happened that we woke up at 11am for an 11:30 class after a regretful night out. Never again. We quickly got ready and called a car to take us 20min to soho and prayed that they would still let us in. We called ahead and the man on the phone was so accommodating. He informed us that we would miss the yoga warm-up, but would still be able to make it in and not miss any of the actual workout.
Once we got there, we were immediately checked in, given our lockers, and walked into class. The head trainer didn't skip a beat when we walked in to see class had just started. He immediately gave us exercises to do and luckily enough, it was still the first of 15 or so stations that you rotate around.
I absolutely LOVED the workout and was so appreciative of the staff for helping us out. It was so fun and I loved all the different machines and exercises I got to try. Will definitely be coming back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Peggy W.New York, NY687407544May 10, 2019
Switch is one of my favorite group fitness classes in the city! They always mix up the workout, and the energy is always motivating. I ensure you that it's more than just a trendy looking studio with fit trainers; the workout is amazing.
You can come alone or with a friend. If you come alone, you'll get paired up with a stranger, but it's not weird at all. If you plan on coming with a friend, be sure to tell the name of your partner to the front desk upon checking in (which they'll prompt you for anyway).
The class format is a 5-minute yoga warm up, 20 2-minute stations, and a quick cool down at the end. There is a good mix of cardio and strength exercises, all of which will challenge you. They mix up the stations every day. There is a head trainer that leads the class, but several other trainers in class to guide you through the different stations. Did I mention there's a live DJ? lol. The workout is incredible. It may seem a bit chaotic for first timers, but it's easy to pick up.
I personally like this location more than the East Village location because it's more spacious, and the equipment seems newer. There are free lockers and showers.
+I love that they offer classes on ClasspassHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Konyin A.Brooklyn, NY49102407Jul 13, 2019
This was my first time at Switch Playground and I really enjoyed it! The class was amazing. I typically don't enjoy working out because I do the same workouts. But with these workouts I was never bored. It was an hour long HIIT workout where you rotate to different stations every 2.5 minutes (2 minutes of exercise and 30 seconds of rest). So even if you hate a specific workout, you know it's only for like 2 minutes.
They had a range of exercises for a total body workout. The music was on point! The instructors were also engaging and supportive! There was an instructor assigned to different sections of the room so you got to interact with all of them. The room was dark with almost strobe lights so it really felt like a party lol. I hadn't worked out in months but was still able to keep up to my own pace.
My only qualm was the bathroom/ dressing room. There were only 3 stalls of toilets and about 6 showers. None of the stalls in the bathroom locked either. It made getting ready a bit annoying because there were a bunch of people there. If I were to come again I'll definitely just come ready to work out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 108399174Dec 9, 2019
The workout here is circuit training involving 20 or so stations and at each station, you and a partner will be doing 2 different sets of exercises. Every 2 minutes, you and your partner will switch to the next station. It's super high intensity but also really fun especially if you're working out with a friend. Every class always has multiple instructors who demonstrate the exercises at the various stations. Quality among the instructors can vary (as with any workout class) but most of them are pretty nice and helpful. I especially like the Sunday, 12:45 class with Fernando and his crew - everyone is super high energy and all smiles which can be a mental boost when you're really feeling the pain in a particularly tough exercise.

Switch Playground has quickly become one of my favorite workouts! Each session works and tones very muscle. I love the approach of short hyper focused sessions making the class go by in no time! All of the instructors are friendly and upbeat making the class so fun! Have been to this location and the Union Square one - both are great!

I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend. I hadn't been to Switch in almost two years, so I forgot how it works. Essentially, you spend two minutes at a station and then move on to the next exercise, staying with one partner the entire time. The 2-minute segments make the class go by faster, especially since you don't repeat stations. I would recommend going with a friend - it's less awkward and makes it more fun.
It's also a good mix of strength and cardio, as the workout alternates between cardio machines and strength exercises like lunges and crunches.
It can be a little overwhelming, especially since it's dark with flashing lights and there's literally a DJ booth in the middle. I would recommend going at a down time when it's not very busy, so your first visit is more manageable.
Bathrooms have nice toiletries and showers, although the locker area can get pretty crowded.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kyle S.Cambridge, MA429332546Mar 23, 2019
One of my favorite workout classes in NYC. They have 20 rounds, each for 2 minutes in which you do exercises (weighted, unweighted, cardio, and everything in between) that work all muscle groups; you also begin each class with a 2-4 minute yoga set. Yet at this Switch (Unlike the one in East Village), they have more than 20 stations going during class, so you may see an exercise that you do not end up actually accomplishing. It's still a great workout, I just didn't feel it all came "full circle" as it does in the other one. The premise is there are two people at each station (you're never working directly with them, just next to them), but don't fear going alone! I have only ever gone alone, but it's also perfect to go with a partner.
It almost has a nightclub feel to it as they have flashing lights and even a DJ. There is a lot of staff to support you throughout, but this location felt particularly crowded, and the bathrooms were really cramped.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
