What is a Doula?

Doulas provide emotional, physical and informational support to both new and experienced parents. While most people think doulas only help in the hospital, the majority of our Sanctuary’s care happens in the home! We meet families before, during and after the birth of their baby and ease the transition as they welcome their new little one. Families generally choose a combination of overnight doula visits and day doula visits, wrapping themselves in professional, evidence-based care throughout the first few weeks and months postpartum.

Overnight Visits

Sanctuary’s overnight visits are 8-12 hours with the goal of maximizing sleep for the whole family. Our overnight doulas create a restful environment caring for baby throughout the night, managing feeding, diapering, soothing and those middle of the night wakeful windows so parents can catch up on some much needed sleep. We support all feeding journeys so no matter if breastfeeding or using a bottle, we can help you navigate the wee hours of the morning with ease.

Postpartum Day Visits

Our postpartum doulas help you create a sanctuary in your home where your growing family can thrive. A postpartum doula fills the “mothering the mother”, a role often lost in our society, by providing professional, evidence-based care that nurtures each family’s unique path through the early months postpartum. Welcoming a new member of the family is a life changing event that warrants care for all family members, not just the new baby.

Birth Doula Care

Birth doula care helps you create a sanctuary to labor and give birth at your home, a birthing center and/or a hospital. At your birth, we anticipate and respond to you and your family's changing needs throughout labor, birth and "the golden hour" immediately after birth. We provide suggestions and assistance to integrate an array of comfort measures focused on your physical and emotional well being.

What Makes Sanctuary Different

Insurance Coverage + Employee Benefits

Infant feeding support home visits are often covered by medical insurance plans.

We work closely with employee benefit programs, such as Carrot Fertility and Progyny, to provide documentation needed for reimbursement for birth and postpartum doula care.
