Nap York, as far as I am aware, is the only business in New York which provides the service of short term sleeping services. Sure, some apps or something might be on the market that direct you to a bed or sofa that will let you crash for a couple hours, but Nap York is a bona fide business that specifically sells this service. They have a range of different nap times here that you can buy, ranging from a 30 minute power nap, up to 8 or 9 hours. This is very reminiscent of the capsule hotels which are ubiquitous in Japan. Keep in mind, they also offer a wework like work space, though I haven't tried it.
You should try to see their main business as a hotel service, except way more bare bones. The main good/service they offer is a sleeping pod. You can store your stuff in a locker downstairs, or keep your suitcase behind the front desk if it doesn't fit, and there is a bathroom which you can use to get a shower and stuff- but at the end of your stay, you're principally paying for the sleeping pod.
The ambiance here is actually quite relaxing. Considering the location (three blocks up from Penn Station), I imagine soundproofing this place was pretty difficult, and they did a pretty good job. The sleeping capsule is reasonably spacious (fyi I'm 5'11" and weigh about 160 lbs), so you shouldn't have too many problems relaxing and falling asleep in the pod. There is a curtain which you can pull over the pod to prevent anyone from seeing in, so at the very least there is some privacy. Each of the pods have mini nightlights and charging ports for your phone, so that's a nice touch. They run a cafe downstairs as well, which I think sells some simple items like lattes.
Pricing varies, but I've used the 6 hour nap here twice, which comes out to about $75 (works out to $12.5 per hour). Considering you can get a sort of dumpy hotel room in New York for about $150 (assuming check in at 3pm, check out at 11am, that's 20 hours, or $7.5 per hour), the pricing is perhaps not as competitive as it could be... However, for people who don't need a hotel room for a full 20 hours, and just want to grab some ZZZs, this can be a better choice. I may come back to revise the rating later on, but provisionally I feel like this is appropriate.
An additional thank you to Kayla and Dexter for making my stay enjoyable.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Audris T.New York, NY8115660Jul 16, 2018Updated review
The Updated NapYork is better than before!
WOW! 3 floors of peace and serene. It is all quite nice and impressive. These architects work hard at reinventing this space and flow. I feel like every floor is structured so intentionally.
A few changes: The ground level floor is the cafe meet up area. second floor (after walking up sound proof steps) is the locker, coffee, kombucha, tea unwind area and has the restrooms (PEOPLE DO NOT FLUSH THE TOILET UNFORTUNELY! The toilets are sensored but not to flush and it is hard to locate the flush button. I walked into a urine filled bowl which i made it my mission to figure out how to flush that thing!)
3rd floor - I like to call it business class pods
4th floor - economy pods = double stacked and it is quite a shimmy and hike to get to the top bunk honestly.
Once you're in (i was in economy class) there isn't a book nor a sweet plant nor a diffuse as before. These pods are to the point. Although it is pitch black and difficult to see which foot goes first to even step into the pod and the light switches do not help. However just lay down and enjoy your nap.
I always think i'll need to take my whole 60 minute break but 30 minutes always does it for me to wake up energized and relaxed to take on the rest of my nap. This place is truly a hidden gem and the staff is amazing!
I hope you found this review helpful to!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Feb 28, 2018Previous reviewGo! Honestly - My mid-day slump comes twice a day. The pods worked as a great recharge to take on the my day as it came. Currently they have a $7 per half hour rate going until March 8 as part of their grand opening but after this date it will be $10.
The pods, are just that, pods. They have a thick black out curtain separating the inside of the with the outer. The beds remind me of over night camp beds (take this for what it is). The foam that they rave about I personally don't feel made a difference than if they used a padded cot. There is a diffuser, noise cancelling headphones, reading material, a blanket, a plant, chargers, and a pillow in the pod.
I asked the receptionist about cleanliness, she expressed they do wipe down each pod per use. Overall I got a solid 15 minute power nap in after getting comfy and really relaxing.
I'm going back. - Haskan K.New York, NY202426Jul 15, 2018
Needed a cheap place to stay overnight with a shower, and Nap York offered that with the novelty of sleeping in a pod.
The place was clean and offered all that was promised on their website. Staff were very friendly and their online chat service was useful for asking questions and reserving my pod. The staff did seem a little inexperienced and slow to check me in, but I put this down to them maybe being new.
I slept very well in my pod. The mattress was a little strange but definitely not uncomfortable. The shower was fine although a little low pressure. The general experience was good and very cost effective for such a central location.
To clarify a few things I read in reviews that I disagree with:
- the wake up alarm vibrating device is strong enough to wake you up if you follow their advice and put it in contact with your body (maybe beneath your pillow)
- the 'star lights' in the ceiling of the pod can be switched off to leave you in total darkness.
- the mattress is fine and is not bare plastic. There is a sheet on it.
- I felt like it was quite private. The curtain closes your pod off entirely. Obviously it's not the same as having your private suite, but you knew that when you signed up.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Peter A.Brooklyn, NY7323173Feb 7, 2018First to Review
Vegans and Misophonia's rejoice!
A quiet, dark space in midtown offering vegan delights, while taking a break from the fast pace of NYC streets in a sleep pod.
No I didn't get a chance to experience a nap, but definitely was intrigued at the concept as this was a former 2 story deli, now turn 4 story Isolation tank with possible roof top...something?
The interior is dark, black and pleasantly decorated with all types of flora to greet you at every turn. Each floor has a specific option that could satisfy a sleep deprived, caffeine crashed NYer when a desk isn't an option. You have the option to sleep in one of their sleep "chambers", sit and converse quietly in a pod chair (a la "Men in Black"), work quietly at their workstations or enjoying one of their vegan meal selections in a soundproof booth.
The food was actually quite good, especially for vegan food. However for me I needed a bit more after I got back to my desk. Prices for food seemed the norm and I didn't hear all the pricing for the other services, but I believe they mentioned $7 for half hour nap or was that the workstation? I know...a quitet space and I didn't hear my tour guide...not his fault, mine.
Overall, the place is interesting and I'll definitely check out the rooftop once its open, but for now I'm giving it just 3 stars. I'm not sure about its location in terms of who is looking for this, but you never know. Its definitely in a high-trafficked area and curious onlookers may give it a try like me.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

A great concept horribly executed. I was so excited for a nice nap today. The staff were young and ditsy and uninformed. I went for a massage and nap. There was no massage person there. I was also told that 45min into my 60min nap, a cleaning service would begin. They started early and were not quiet. Their pods have no doors. There was a drunk woman walking around that they let stand and walk around in their "relax lounge" who was yelling at people and disruptive. If that wasn't all bad enough, they decided to do a photo shoot next to my pod while I was trying to sleep!!!
Oh an you have to pay extra for a sheet, otherwise you sleep on plastic mattress. And if you're sensitive to light, there's light and electronics all over the pod, and you'll have to pay extra for an eye mask. When i have the feedback, all they said was "I'm sorry." I had to request a refund and credit.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 3, 2018
Interesting store concept, combining tranquil coffee shop on the first floor and a futuristic sleeping pods on the second floor. Wanted a hot latte, clerk advised to order through the touch screen kiosk. It's pretty self explanatory, payments are made through credit card only as they don't accept cash. I waited for my Matcha Mocha latte drink to come out through a conveyor belt (pretty cool). I wanted to head to the second floor to have my beverage, but the sales girl stopped me; said I can't go to the 2nd floor as people are sleeping up there. She started going into detail about the sleeping pods and the price rates per each pod. It's mainly for people who are traveling or people who work in the area to get some shut eyes. Each pod has a special theme (Elon Musk pod) with remote to suit each person, and a twin size bed. Sounds like a sci-fi movie, but these coffee shops might soon be the norm in this busy city of ours. I stayed on the first floor sitting in a hammock chair and enjoyed my drink. My Matcha mocha latte tasted pretty good though.

I've seen this place really evolve from the time it opened till now, they've added a a numerous amount of new amenities and new spaces (example :rooftop hammock , different styles of pods and even events like "puppy play time ")
Overall it's a good way to rest up between a night out with the boys and works. Service is great, staff super friendly , pods and spaces are clean , price for naps are decent)
3 stars because the price for drinks and food off their conveyer built is touristy high & you can't fuck in them which made them lose 1.5 starsHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Erica R.Washington, DC021Feb 23, 2018
I don't write reviews - ever. But I have to take a second to rave about my experience with Nap York. After a series of travel catastrophes, I found myself at Penn Station, having missed the last train to DC for the evening. At 10:30pm, I was faced with having to huddle in a miserable ball in the Amtrak waiting area until the 3:25am train. Enter Nap York.
Four blocks north of Penn Station, on 7th Avenue, Nap York enthusiastically greeted my walk-in and swiftly took me to my nap pod. Nap York is both brilliant in concept and execution. The pods are clean, comfortable, and comforting - with lovely ambience and functional amenities (charging cables, blanket and noise cancelling headphones). After a quick change into PJs in the bathroom (complete with a Toto-style toilet), I zonked out. The pod itself was completely dark, but with optional reading lights or ceiling "stars."
Upon waking, the attendant informed me that they didn't have anyone else booked in for my pod, so I was free to sleep longer, and I totally considered it for a minute, but I had to get moving. Were it not for work obligations, I would've tucked back in and slept the rest of the night!
Nap York is great. I will definitely be using them in the future, whether it's for a mid-day hiatus or for a longer rest as a travel intermission. There's part of me that hates to share this hidden gem, because I was so thankful that they had walk-in availability, but they were such a life-saver for my travel misery that I have to give them my appreciation!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

I gave Nap York a try as my train wasn't available for another two hours. The service here is absolutely wonderful! Start your stay with a warm towel, end your stay with satisfaction and being well-rested. You can get away from it all, here at Nap York. The first time I stayed here, I was offered a military discount and I appreciated it.
Food here is great, would think that the conveyor belt can use food instead of placing items for pickup on there.
Pods are clean and comfortable, I stayed in both business and first class. Sanitary facilities are overwhelming, no, I don't need the toilet seat to open for me, nor do I need a bidet to wash and massage my bottom.
You pay $10/30 minutes and you get such luxuries. Will definitely come back again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Markie M.New York, NY4242910Feb 16, 2018
The most relaxed and tranquil ambiance I've found in New York to date! There are phone charging stations, nap pods, quiet spaces to work, massage chairs, & a cafe with really flavorful and healthy drinks and snacks. I also love all of the plants everywhere!!!
