Mpower Bodywork

I've been having a lot of pain from my sinus system to full body aches since I had Covid-19. Today I booked an acupuncture facial with Mariko and 90 min deep tissue massage with Igor. Very cute office off of Union Square, with tea and water in the reception area.

Let me tell you... it's been months since I've felt like myself, and for the first time in a long while I feel like I'm actually physically functioning. The facial was a bit intense, even as someone who's gotten my fair amount of acupuncture before, getting it on your face is "different". I came in with issues related to my sinuses, not draining properly, and by the time my massage was happening afterwards, I was trying not to leak all over the massage table. Quite effective. I'm excited to see what shape my skin is in the next week. Mariko was such a sweetheart and explained everything as it was happening, so there was no confusion.

Now on to the deep tissue massage... one of the BEST I've had in my life. Igor was truly magical and I'd recommend him to anyone who asked. I've had issues with my neck, lower back, and sciatica. Making it very challenging to function. I cannot believe how great I feel.

There is no denying that the massage was painful at times, because my body was EXTREMELY tight. I have had 30+ deep tissue massages and not one had my body feeling like it does right now. Igor is was so patient with my body as he eased out the tension. He's quite quiet, but it let me focus on breathing through the pain. Very firm hands, with great motion, and his pressure was absolute perfection. Such a sweetheart as well. It wasn't just an oily rubdown like I've gotten at spas before here in NYC.

I've walked 20 blocks since I left and felt like I could keep going. Which was not something I can say I was capable of when I came in because of my body pain and aches. I will most definitely be back. They're a bit pricy, but it's worth every penny, and such hospitable employees that care about their patients. I also met the owner when paying, and he was such a pleasant character. He had a great energy and was so friendly.

Saviors of my back and neck! Have been here multiple times and I always leave feeling so much better. Quality massages for a great price. All the therapist I've had have been amazing. My go-to massage place.

I am training for the NYC marathon and saw Jasmine. She addressed all tight areas for me especially my calves which were causing me pain. She then showed me stretches after the session for tight areas. She was PHENOMENAL and I woke up today feeling like a new person. If you have any injuries or tight areas, definitely go here!

I still frequent Mpower though not as often as I'd like. I saw a few different massage therapists over the course of time and enjoyed each one differently. My last massage was with David which I enjoyed because he gave me insight into the nerve issues I've been dealing with and how I'm on the right path to continuing my rehabilitation process. It felt good to acknowledge something I enjoyed doing wasn't hindering my progress.

Excellent massage from John. Subsequent massage by a different practitioner was awful (no pressure , felt ticklish under the light touch). But I will go back to see John!

Slow, deep and incredibly thorough Swedish Deep Tissue massage with Christopher Caban not only got all my knots out but left me incredibly relaxed, like being stoned without drugs. The next morning I felt so relaxed, I wish I could feel like this every day... I will be back often.

I will absolutely be coming back here - John was incredible. I booked the 60 minute swedish massage with CBD oil on classpass and I am so glad I found this place. This is possibly the best massage I've ever had in NYC. Can't recommend it enough!

I'm an athlete that's had two ACL surgeries, and was experiencing pain and tightness in my knee. I guessed it was from having tight calves and hamstring, and I was particularly worried because I had an international tournament in 5 days but couldn't walk or run normally. I called Mpower and got I connected with Greg, who booked me for two myofascial massages before I left. Let me tell you--SAVED MY LIFE!!! Greg did some magic and within 24 hours my knee was back to normal. The follow up appointment made me feel confident that my knee issue was resolved, long story short I went to play in the tournament and was good as new with no problems. I've had lots of massage therapists and PTs in my time as an athlete and cannot recommend Greg enough!! He was very communicative, and incredibly professional. Will be back

When I came to Mpower for the first time, it was because they accept those darned pain-in-the-ass SpaFinder cards that people like to chip in and give their coworkers for their birthdays. Turns out they were offering a generous new client BOGO special, and I came back a second time because of that. After the second visit I knew I would want to keep coming back simply because it's a great place.

I am not into fancy spa stuff, and Mpower is NOT fancy by any means. It's in an old building with public bathrooms that remind me of my elementary school... but it is simple, clean, and has good vibes. This is not the kind of place you come to feel super pampered, but is the perfect place to come if you're health-minded and simply want to have your physical and emotional knots softened by licensed massage therapists in a practical way at a reasonable price.

My favorite therapists so far are Igor and Gregory. If you are looking for a very quiet but super strong masseuse and want to just zone out, you will really like Igor. He is about a million feet tall but as quiet as a mouse. Gregory, the owner, is a warm and friendly, and provides more technical explanation regarding what he is doing. He seems like a very open-minded and spiritual person, and is the type that makes you immediately feel like you have known him for years.

I highly recommend checking this place out. (As of this writing- December 2020- they're still offering the 2-for-1 new client special, which is a pretty amazing value.)

We went to Mpower as part of a celebratory afternoon, and had a truly wonderful experience. The massages we received were highly personalized and left us both feeling super relaxed. The owner deserves a special shout-out: he was incredibly kind, personable, and engaging. We hope to visit again in the future!
