Course Description:

This workshop will cover the following:

·Introduce the student to Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), by presenting the history and concept of MLD.

·Anatomy and Physiology of the Lymphatic System.

·Lymph circulation and issues

·Immunity and immune responses

·Indications and contraindications

·Principles of MLD

·The complete MLD session, including record keeping and session notes

·Techniques are demonstrated and practiced on different body regions.

·Routines are demonstrated, documented and practiced for the following: Face and Neck, Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity and Immune Booster

·Self-massage is demonstrated and practiced

·Using MLD with other techniques

·Case studies are given, requiring the students to state the appropriate MLD work for each case

Learning Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Manual Lymph Drainage, how the system works including the immune system.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Manual Lymph Drainage indications and contraindications, principles and the session and record keeping.

Students will learn how to incorporate MLD work with other massage techniques

Students will build detailed routines for the face/neck, upper extremity, lower extremity and immune booster.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of self-massage.

Students will be able to read a case study and suggest appropriate MLD work

LearningObjectives:

3.Students will understand the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system

4.Students will understand immunity and the body’s immune responses

5.Students will understand lymph circulation and how it can be compromised

6.Students will perform the techniques on various regions of the body

7.Students will understand indications and contraindications for Manual Lymph Drainage

8.Students will understand the Principles of Manual Lymph Drainage

9.Students will understand the MLD session in its entirety, including record keeping

Students will understand using MLD with other techniques
Students will understand and demonstrate the routine for face and neck
Students will understand and demonstrate the routine for the upper extremity
Students will understand and demonstrate the routine for the lower extremity
Students will understand and demonstrate the routine for an immune booster
Students will create a personal manual on routines, which will include drawings and written scripts.
Students will understand how to use MLD techniques to perform a self-massage
