Appreciate having "Natural Hair Salon" for Us in our community to understand our texture, maintenance, styling, etc.. However, I find "Natural" means braids and locs. It took alot for me to go natural, so I was emotionally disappointed when I came out looking nothing like what I wanted and stated if my hair texture could not support the picture, let me know. Very disheartened. How!!!

It's a good salon to check out every now and then. I've experienced a couple of stylists and they are decent, but they can improve on customer service and being more gentle with people's hair. Though Amanda did my silk press nicely and was friendly, she burned my forehead and neck. She was not quick to apologize or check in to make sure I'm ok (maybe offer ice/ cool towel if you burn clients), and she tried to say it was steam but it was not. I'm not happy about the burns, but I would give her another chance and ask her to be very cautious. So two stars for burning me, but 4 stars overall for the salon.

I'm just leaving this salon and never have been so disrespected for a service I'm paying for. My stylist was actually quite nice and professional. I got a wash, blow dry, and trim. After the trim, I asked my stylist to put in two braids not knowing that I would be asked to pay $25 for them. I'm literally talking about two French braids, which I can do myself.
When I went to the register to pay, the price of the service was higher than I was told over the phone when booking. When I asked why, the man at the front told me it was for the braids. Now because I wasn't told up front that two simple French braids would be $25 I was surprised. And expressed that had I known, I wouldn't have asked for them. The man at the register immediately caught an attitude over a situation that really did not even need to escalate. He was extremely rude and told me that I could just have the stylist "take them out since I didn't want to pay." At that point, I had the stylist take them out because he was so rude, and I wasn't going to give that establishment more money.
I'm actually at a loss for how a business can run with such an unprofessional staff person. I wish I could give no stars! I will say my stylist was great and the others seem to be too, but I won't be back. And recommend that others steer clear as well. At least until they hire a new receptionist who isn't so unprofessional.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 2 - Khemet D.New York, NY2147Apr 5, 2023
I would give them no stars. I wanted to support black owned business. But do not waste your very hard earned money here. This is how they believe their professional Stylist should do a weave. They will not give you your money back, not even a portion. Avoid this place. They aren't worth the stress and money.

I requested a next day appointment, and the owner contacted his best hairdresser Bahia Parrish. I had her the last time I was at the salon for hair dyeing. another young lady did my hair in crochet style. Unfortunately, I delayed going back and a lot of work had to be done to my hair to save it. Bahia was amazing and I am extremely grateful to the care she took to maintain my hair. she worked on it all day and was so gracious. She has become my permanent stylist. I definitely recommend this salon to anyone.

This will be very, VERY long, honest, and thorough. I'm just leaving the salon and writing this to prevent myself from breaking into tears in public. Don't want to read? I'll summarize it by saying I am traveling home feeling embarrassed wishing I had a headscarf after leaving here.
The space: The environment has a lot of natural woody elements in its interior. The music is good and soulful and gives a somewhat relaxed vibe.
Booking: I called expecting to find a booking next week and was pleasantly surprised I was able to get an appointment same day. The woman I spoke with was patient with me since I wasn't sure about a couple things and she helped me settle on getting flat twists which would help me with defining my curls more in the coming days. So I booked for that. Her disposition on the phone made me feel that I would be in gentle caring hands when I got there.
The experience:
Arrival: I came for my appointment on time but the stylist who would be attending to me was still busy. Understandable, no biggie. Things happen and sometimes some things run over. Was I given any assurance or apology for the wait? Nah.
The Wash: I'm finally in the chair 30 mins later. When seated for a wash I let the stylist know I would like a detox since I had a lot of product build up and it had been a while since I was able to wash it, the short version: my hair and scalp were filthy. It was an extra $30 which i didn't mind paying. She detoxed and washed my hair and it felt really good when she did it. Maybe it was her technique or my scalp still had several itches to get out. The world will never know. It still felt amazing though. Around the middle to near the end of the wash she asks me about getting a two strand twist. I tell her I was in for flat twists. Her response, "I dont do flat twists". I would have to do the two strand which was significantly higher in price. You know that meme with the guy who tilts his head and all those question marks pop up. Yeah...that was my brain. But Im already there..maybe her twists are bomb and worth it so I'm like fine we'll do that then. Still not thrilled but it can turn out favorable so I stay.
Styling: I should have heeded the red flags. When im seated to begin styling, she asks my preferred size. I tell her medium and that I didn't want it small because my hair is prone to tangle and matt up quickly when the twists are small. She acknowledges and proceeds. She starts at the back and is working through them rather quickly. I know my hair. From the way it felt, she combed though the sections halfway (from the roots!), then split the section and twisted. All with a fine tooth comb. Mind you my hair is tangled after washing. Im literally feeling my hair rip. She points out that I needed a trim and should have it done on my next visit. Like, we are mentioning a trim now??? Why not suggest it to begin with so I'm not leaving with hair that will further damage? I wouldn't of minded paying extra for it. Around this point I'm noticing the size of the twists: small. Im over it and now just want to go home. She finally notices my frustration and asks if things are okay. I tell her no and describe my feelings as accurately as possible:"I came into this salon hating my har and will be leaving hating it more." I tell her about how she is working through my hair. She claims she is detangling all the way through.
After that she began using the blow dryer with a comb attachment to comb through the remaining parts of my 4c hair. I start to try and finger detangle some areas to prevent more hair loss since the floor is now filled with clumps and clumps of my hair. Ive been fighting back tears for a good 30 mins now at this point. Ive already chalked up this experience as a loss and I just want to go home. Took a work call that I had to FaceTime for but ended up disturbing the space. I should've been mindful. I guess I was eager for a distraction.
Anyway she finished and I wanted to breakdown when I looked in the mirror. Noone seemed to care that i was upset, so i paid, said nothing and left. So disappointed in this salon and have no more faith in natural salons in nyc
The mask pic I did myself in the past. The cat face is from this salon.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jennifer J.Manhattan, NY04Oct 1, 2023
I requested a wash with cornrows. My hair dresser was great, but the price was super expensive. I spend roughly $175 without tip. This included, unbraiding my cornrows, washing my hair, deep conditioner treatment and cornrows (approximately 12 braids). If you are on a budget, I would not recommend this salon.
