Lip waxing is a cosmetic procedure that uses body wax to remove unwanted facial hair. Hard wax is used during the removal process. The wax is warm and thick. It is applied to the area needing waxing. The wax is allowed to cool on the skin, which hardens the wax and traps the hairs. It is then manually removed.
For many women, the hair above and below their lip darkens as they age, and after major hormonal changes. Lip waxing is typically chosen for cosmetic reasons. We also have men who opt for this waxing in order to cut down on shaving.
Waxing is never done on clients taking Accutane and is not recommended for clients taking Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications.
Sunburned, irritated or areas with open skin cannot be waxed.
You must wait a minimum of 7 days before waxing after a light chemical peel.
In order for the wax to grab on to the hairs, your lip hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch long. A good rule of thumb if you want to eyeball it, is that the lip hair should be as long as an eyelash to make the waxing most effective.
To prepare for your waxing appointment, exfoliate the area the day before you wax. This helps to rustle up any hair that might be stuck behind dead dry skin.
Avoid using other hair removal methods in-between waxing sessions, especially shaving. One of the benefits of waxing is that your hair will grow back less and more thinly over time if you wax regularly. When you shave in-between waxing sessions, you will be losing any progress you made towards conditioning your hair re-growth.
Waxing can cause redness in sensitive areas that lasts anywhere between a few minutes and 12 hours. If you’re waxing to prepare for a special party or event, schedule your appointment at least 24 hours beforehand to ensure any redness is gone in time.
