Mr. Natty is the bomb. I've had my hair cut by him twice now, and both times came out feeling amazing. He is entertaining, experienced (decades of it, mostly in England), and extremely meticulous. Absolutely worth the $48, there's a huge difference in how perfect his haircuts are and how well they age compared to other haircuts I've had in my life. My hair looks great all the way up until my next cut. Mr. Natty also owns a hair product line - I bought a tin of his paste and absolutely love the smell and the texture it gives my hair.
The barbershop itself is terrific. Vintage and true to the art of barbering: Horween natural CXL barber chairs, menthol towels, straight razors etc. Also got lucky and went once when they happened to have whiskey and cookies that they were nice enough to share with customers.
If I weren't on a student budget, I'd continue going to Freemans monthly. I can't really justify the expense right now so I'll be going to my local barbershop. But I'll be back whenever I need that perfect cut!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ben B.New York, NY22281May 23, 2017
After many years of coming here I am officially finished. The staff are total assholes and incredibly rude and unfriendly. U are essentially met with a grunt, rushed thru your service and barely given a shard of gratitude for your business. If you wish to pay $50 for what constitutes to be a 15 min buzz cut with clippers, be my guest. Upon leaving, when I asked the shithead manager for change so I could tip his stylist, he asked me 'why I was in his face' and said the front of the counter is here!' I will never return and would give it zero stars if I
With so much competition out there, Freeman's cannot behave this way and keep me as a customer. Goodbye.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 19, 2015
I forget the name of my barber but I thought she did a great job. Strangely enough, she was also being featured in some sort of documentary the day I was there. Maybe she'll get discovered and become like a celebrity barber or something?
Anyways, make an appointment.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Salman S.Washington, DC92Mar 18, 2016
I was in NYC from DC and decided to try this place out, which came highly recommended by a friend of mine who frequents it. I had an appt with Josh Cave, who seemed nice enough, and appeared pretty decent with his technique....or so I thought.
I sat down and was asked what I'd like to have done. I asked for tight around the side and back, and to have my long top trimmed slightly to a graduating length, long in front.
After he got buzzing my back and sides, which was easy enough considering he used a trimmer, he started working on the top. He didn't spend too much time up there, which I found odd, and ended up focusing his attn back on my sides.
Once he was done, I found it strange that he didn't blow-dry all over my head, but let it go. Even stranger, I was charged only $32, and my visit was treated as a trim/touch up, than a regular cut.
Two days later, back home, I noticed a HUGE chunk of hair on the mid to back of the left side of the top of my hair cut shorter than the rest.....almost 2-3" shorter than the hair on the opposite side. So now I have to style my hair in such a way to hide the disaster, and decide, in a wk or so when I go to a barber down here in DC, if I want to cut the length off that I've spent a year growing. Either way, EXTREMELY displeased. Thanks so much for potentially destroying something I've spent almost a year growing.
Never again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Misha T.Manhattan, NY01Mar 19, 2017
I've been going to these guys for about three years now. For me, going to a new barber is always a big risk -- I've had plenty of bad experiences and it's tough to find barbers that are consistent, professionally skilled, and that really "get" what you're looking for. This place has that combination in spades. I've gotten cuts by three different barbers here over the years and all three were excellent. Everyone here makes you feel at home. Ruben, the owner, is the man and knows how to both recruit the best talent as well as build a well-run shop. He's also an excellent barber.
If you're looking for a barber recommendation I suggest Mr. Natty. I get my hair cut by him now and actually use his product as well. You come out of that seat with a sharp, great-looking cut and having laughed for 30 minutes. Can't go wrong.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David X.New York, NY026Jul 27, 2017
Lazy distracted barber. Came in with specific instructions how to cut it and he just banged out a fade and chopped up the top as quick as possible ignoring the specifics I'd told him.
Now my hair is just growing out haphazardly because it was chopped up randomly. Can't even style or shape it with product because he literally just did random cuts so the hair has no flow to it it just sits there in a choppy mess.
This is probably the 3rd disappointing barbershop I've been to in the city since I moved here. If anyone can recommend a consistent barbershop that lives up to the price and the fancy decor, please message me!
As a recommendation for anyone visiting LA, The Cut By is probably the best shop I've been to where they take incredible attention to detail and aren't so distracted while they work.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris j.ASTORIA, NY05May 24, 2017
I had a buzzcut and beard trim with Joey. The two services were scheduled for 35 min. Joey was done in less than 10. The cut was fine...hard to mess up a buzzcut. The beard trim was terrible. Uneven and careless. There are distinct clipper lines where it was perfectly blended before. If you go to this barber shop, do not book with Joey.

I called to make an appointment last night for my 12 year old son & was quoted $22. We arrived on time to a full house, but sat as 3 stylists finished cuts & were then unoccupied. 30 minutes after our appt time, his haircut began. It wasn't a great cut
& his hair was still wet when it was over. Then I was told it was $42. We'll not be going back.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - JD T.New York, NY49611Jun 11, 2015
I have been coming to Freemans Barber for about a year. I came here because my boyfriend suggested I try out his barber, Mark. I decided to give it a go.
Since then I haven't looked back. Mark is a wonderful barber and human being.
All the barbers here are really meticulous and perfectionists. Highly recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jin K.Los Angeles, CA249138Jul 15, 2014
I've been going to Miles for the past couple of years now and he does a great job every time. I've also gone to Coco a few times when Miles wasn't available and she also does a great cut.
I have Asian hair, so it has been difficult to find a barber who could provide a great cut without the sides of my hair looking like a mulberry bush after 2 weeks. The options for Asian hair have been pretty much limited to the butt crack bowl cut, anything high and tight, or dragon ball z spikes.
The first time I went to Miles, I gave him an idea of what look I was going for. Miles was able to make a few suggestions on how to improve the style which resulted in a haircut that not only looked good then and there but still looked fresh leading up to my next appointment.
The best part of the experience is that each barber takes his time and shows great care when cutting your hair which is a rarity amongst spots like the hair cutting factory down in Astor Place or any of the run of the mill $15 spots.
I highly recommend this spot!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
