Been coming to this studio for years since a friend brought me to Bikram class back when I was in high school. When I come regularly my body and mind feels much better overall. Due to coming to this studio for a long time I have become more athletic.
The teachers here are top notch. I've visited other studios and it's really nice how they don't overload the schedule with a different class every hour. It really ensures quality instruction over quantity!
The owner Angela is an absolute gem and truly cares about the students coming to class. You can tell it isn't just about business here but it sort of feels like a supportive community :) All three studios (West Linn, Happy Valley & Alberta) are great. I have so many favorite teachers here. Thanks forge you guys really are appreciated!
Also I noticed the bad review below me by Jane (not the one about injury) is incredibly petty and obnoxious wowww (?) A bit shocking to read that honestly.
anyways back to the mat for me lol

This is my favorite place to practice. The teachers all go out of their way to learn everyone's name and make them feel welcome.
Very clean and first class studio with big windows!
I have been coming here for years, after a referral and have recommended to others.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mayang J.Hercules, CA44818Aug 20, 2019
Took 60 Min Hot Yoga with Kris and it was amazing! Definitely coming back when I'm in town. Great flow and cold lavender towel at the end was perfectly refreshing! Ahhhhh....

Beautiful, clean studio with warm, friendly instructors and so many extra touches (lavender hand towels after class, three showers in the women's room with shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided). The room itself is inviting and the heat/humidity combo was perfect. I've been to dozens of studios and this is up there with the best.
Elio was a great teacher. I wish I lived closer and can't wait to go back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angela T.Cambridge, MA40760178Jan 11, 2019Updated review
Update: As I mentioned in my original review, instructors who didn't listen + carpets that are incredibly difficult to grip with your feet gave me a hip injury that is still bothering me half a year later.

Hi Angela, I am the owner of Forge and I am sad to learn of your opinion of our studio. One of the main reasons people find yoga helpful is that it encourages you to listen to your body. Avoiding pushing or forcing your way into something that does not feel right is never encouraged. I also had sent you a personal email asking how your experience was and if you had any questions about a month before your first review in July 2018. Unfortunately, I didn't hear back from you anything regarding how your first month was going. We are always here to help and encourage all of our yoga students to come see us before of after class if there is something we can help with regarding alignment or how to approach your postures. If you'd like to discuss further I'm available via email at info@forgehotyoga.com. All of our clients are very important to us and we want to help you!

Started my membership at Forge earlier this summer because I was exercising vigorously every day, and I wanted to prevent injury. Unfortunately, Forge has caused more injuries than it has prevented. The floor is incredibly slippery? Not because of sweat but because the low carpet is impossible to grip. I have popped my hip so hard that the following day when doing nothing but a lunge, I popped it again. One instructor in particular is unable to understand that everyone's bodies are different, and pushes you/makes comments despite your understanding of how your body does not feel right. For me, certain positions on the impossible to grip floor put immense strain on my medial collateral ligaments (think side of knee closest to midline) and instead of trying to recognize that I know my body best, she will spout some pseudoscience and completely misinterpret my discomfort.
The other reason I joined was to find peace after a stressful semester. It has come to my attention, however, that I am fidgety and completely incapable of being ~still~ during class. If you are naturally capable of meditating and clearing your mind, feel free to ignore me completely. Of course, there is much I can do in this regard, but the format of the class truly irritates me. For Hot Yoga, the routine is the same EVERY day -- different instructors, but the exact same movements AND words. I get that you're trying to make the heat more bearable by filling the space with encouragement, but when I can practically recite all 90 minutes of it, the spiel is not exactly helpful.
Moreover, I am baffled by the claims that these instructors make (the same every day) about the medical benefits of every single move. As a student of science, hearing that holding my body in *this* position has lasting benefits for the "medulla oblongata" is, first of all, absurd, and also incredibly distracting because (different example) it's almost insulting(?) that you think we would believe that breathing through your right nostril engages one half of your brain and your left nostril the other. Regurgitating medical jargon and pseudoscience does not boost your authority or the appeal of the studio. I will renew my membership because I FEEL the lasting impacts of this activity on my body and not because of some marketing gimmick.
Still, I'm pretty happy with the instructors, though I do think they could do more physical instruction (i.e. correct our form).
Breakdown by Class:
Hot Yoga: See above. Immensely hot. Please bring water. My favorite part of the entire experience is the cold lavender-scented towel (provided) that I put over my face at the successful conclusion of each session.
HIIT Pilates: Not a very good exercise class, if I'm to be honest. Try POP Pilates (Youtube: Cassey Ho) for more intensity.
Yin Yoga: Jo was definitely the best instructor because I always left feeling thoroughly stretched out. I think she's gone now. The other classes I've been to have felt highly inefficient/ineffective even for a relatively new and inflexible person like me. Expect to cut off circulation in your legs regardless. Perhaps I'm just doing everything wrong, but I wouldn't know because no one has said anything.
****
tl;dr In all, I have vaguely enjoyed my experience with Forge Hot Yoga, and I'm grateful for their fair pricing ($39 intro month + towel/mat; 50% discount during subsequent month for good work ethic in intro month; $99/month or $119/month otherwise) - Katie C.Aurora, OR0347Sep 7, 2018
Carpet, especially of the old and resembling one left over from a previous restaurant is absolutely gross. It's no wonder the instructors pin the door open to the busy parking lot during class. That's right, you listen to strip mall traffic through your entire class.
The instructor for the class I attended was borderline dangerous. She did not lead the group as a whole, she tried to coach by doing some sort of demonstration before each position? Complete opposite of the spectrum of a Yin class... there was zero relaxation with those tactics.
Furthermore, it's VITAL to emphasize the need to engage the core, and SLOWLY show each posture as to how to achieve a pose. Not let everyone go in on it like a free for all.
Do yourself a favor, make the drive to another Yoga den. This one is FAR from having any advanced yogies who understand and have mastered all the distinctive arms constructing the divine practice of yoga. And don't forget, it's YOUR practice, not a Lake O soccer mom who wants the title of "I'm a yoga instructor, look at me"!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Derek F.Oregon City, OR08May 15, 2019
Decided to get back into a self care routine and focus on keeping my body healthy , after previously trying hot yoga I decided to jump back in , I immediately felt welcomed and loved the atmosphere and awesome instructors. I'll definitely stick with it .

Came here on a buddy pass. My first time doing hot yoga and I loved it! Instructor was helpful and let people do the different moves and positions at their own comfort level.
I also appreciated that while becoming a member was mentioned to me and I was told the rates, it was not pushed. Awhile back when I was touring different gyms to try and find what I liked best I had to deal with a lot of salesmen trying to push me into memberships and it always left a really bad taste in my mouth. Sadly I live far enough away from this gym that a membership is not ideal but I hope to come back every now and then!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenny T.Fort Lauderdale, FL036Feb 8, 2016
