  • The purpose of our physical practice is to shift our awareness from our thoughts into our physical body.

The best way to prepare for class is move slowly and enter mindfully.

When you enter, remove your shoes, place all of your belongings in a cubby (including your cell phone).

Bring only your mat, water and towel into the practice space.

You will be greeted by a teacher and fellow students.

Take child’s pose if you are seeking quiet and stillness before class begins.

If you feel like connecting with others, be mindful of your volume and respect the space of others around you.

After class, continue to be mindful and notice how you feel.

Hydrate and nourish your body. Notice shifts, curiosities, and how you feel off the mat. Keep coming back to your mat!

  • Yoga poses (or asana) are to help us get into our body…not the other way around.

If you are experiencing instability, pain or simply want to deepen your practice, we strongly recommend setting up a private session with Michelle, Crystal or Lori.

Also check out our Events page for skill-based workshops that teach the foundation of complex poses like inversions, back bends and arm balances.

For an even deeper dive into the practice, consider inquiring about Embodied Vitality Teacher Training.

Takeaway: Yoga asana is a practice. We learn about ourselves through the poses.

  • Here are three ways to receive the most benefit from your practice:

    1. Practice regularly…at least 4 to 5 times per week. Aim for consistency over sporadic intensity.

    2. Start working with intention and having a beginner’s mind of curiosity. Watch for habits of over- and under-effort as you begin to move. Be open to learn and create new skills that promote Sattva (neutrality) and a balance of effort and grace.

    3) Orient yourself towards being present to what’s actually happening in the moment. Start to develop awareness of your thoughts vs. reality .

Key takeaway: You will receive in direct proportion to what you offer.

Teacher/Student relationship: When you learn to share your intention, practice, questions and challenges with a teacher who inspires you; you amplify connection, discovery and growth for every one involved.

Take workshops, schedule personal sessions, and make connections with fellow students in the community.

  • Yoga is not a one-size-fits-all practice. If you are pregnant, recently had a baby, or recovering from illness or injury, invest in the Embodied Vitality Method Coaching program. You will learn how to craft your daily holistic practice to support your healing and growth.
