My family and I have been training at EWKF for 18 months. We love it and my kids (my son started at 3.5 yo and my daughter at 4.5 yo) are doing so well within the school.

I chose this school because I could attend with my kids. Ms Baker is the head of the school and has created the best community environment. The staff is so welcoming, kind, fun and professional. They are all amazing martial artists and even better humans and role models for us all.

They challenge us to learn and understand the techniques and give us the "why" behind the moves. We have two local tournaments a year & a national tournament as well. They also host special tai chi seminars, corporate self- defense seminars, nunchucks lessons and teacher leadership workshops.

We just had my son's birthday party here and everyone LOVED it. And my daughter attends summer camp here (super engaging and fun).

My kids are learning leadership skills, becoming more confident and developing relationships with their fellow students. I would highly recommend scheduling 1st 5 lessons to see if it's the right fit for you and your family!

We had amazing women's event and self defense seminar at this location! The amount of time, effort, and communication was great and you can really feel the community they have at this Kung Fu school.

Our son started here 2 years ago and loves it. He has developed physically and mentally and has advanced 4 belt levels. If you are looking for your child to learn martial arts AND also results in them being respectful and confident, this is the place!

So, we joined East-West after reviewing many schools and there are a few reasons to join and learn bokfudo.

First, a little about bokfudo. Means "way of the white tiger" in cantonese, but it's very much a northern system. It's not from China so if you're a purist, this is not for you. However... I will state the following:

      1) They are more family oriented. Meaning, everyone seems to love going there and the staff is always courteous and very friendly.

      2) Overwhelming number of female instructors. This is nice because you don't get the Cobra Kai feeling like some schools.

      3) They do not require you to compete which personally is always a plus. Some schools exist only for trophies.

I was able to sign up my son and myself into this school and we have been having a blast. The system is very belt oriented and they have classes 6 days a week where you can go to the group classes that work for your schedule. Into my 4th group class, I was out of breath (due to the workout and mask wearing) and several instructors asked how I was doing and were genuinely concerned with my well being. That's something that you want for your kids.

I'm not above the fact that this is a system and they are running a commercial business. But there's definitely a comraderie that is next to none.

Pricing if you pay for a year in advance roughly comes out to less than $200 a month. That's less than $50 a week which actually is very affordable considering the schedule aspect (You could go 6 days a week if you wanted at that price).

In general, looking forward to something that I'm doing for my health, but also a bonding experience with my son. Very much encourage anyone looking for similar. Also, they have camps and seminars (at extra cost).

Master Newman and the other brown or black belt instructors will take care of you!

(There are sister schools in Alamo and Lafayette too).

This is a much overdue feedback. My kids and I have been taking classes for about 4 years now. It started with my son who was about 8 years old at the time. Some of his friends started showing signs of bullying and my son being a bit introvert, started showing frustration from seeing another kid being bullied. We had asked him in prior years to join different kind of self-defense classes from Tae Kwan Do, Karate, Jiu Jit Su, but he was not interested. Finally, he agreed to try Kung Fu at this school.

We are so glad we found EWKF. Not only it gives him much confidence but also teaches students respect and compassions to others. As we parents may now, kids sometime seem to listen better to 3rd party than their own parents, so it helps to know they listen to the people we can trust.

Our younger girl joined a couple years later. It has and hopefully will continue to teach her to be a strong girl like her mentor and other female teachers in the school.

Exercise of course, is an additional benefit from it, though not in the beginning. The higher the level, the more challenging moves you learn, thus the more intense workout you get. For me it is a good bonding with my kids, and a perfect channel to release life stress. If it's not because of my work schedules, I'd probably take both their am and pm classes everyday.

Keep up the good work, EWKF!!

I've been doing kung fu for a year now and I can say it has really changed me. Working with the other teachers and trainees also helps my leadership skills soar high. It seems the yelp page isn't updated but I wanted to also say that East west kung fu is now offering in person classes. All of which are social distanced with a cap of 12 people. All teachers and trainees wear masks and the kids can too if they choose to. If they are indoors it's mandatory and if it's outdoors when the weather is good the kids can choose.

Our 2 (elementary school-age) kids are having an incredibly positive experience at East West. They've attended for the past year and a half. Students are taught by skilled pros who have great compassion and a supportive style. If your student should ever struggle, they'll get support and help to work through it. We've really enjoyed summer camps here as well.

EAst West has made a great transition during Covid too, offering Zoom classes that are actually engaging and personalized, plus safely distanced private lessons in studio if you want them. EW has become a positive constant during an ever-changing/strange time. You or your children will never regret going to East West Kung Fu. It's so much more than just a martial arts school.. I can't say enough good things about them and all the people who work there.

I am an adult studying at East West Kung fu for a little over 5 years now. First of all, GREAT school and community there. Not only do you get a great workout, you will learn the best self-defense concepts and moves, get motivated to do things that you never thought possible, it's a big confidence booster as well. The schedule works out great with morning classes for adults and many classes for students of all ages and abilities 6 days a week - from the early afternoon to later evenings. This started out simply as just a hobby for me but has evolved into a part of my daily life. Believe me, you do not need any background at all (I was NEVER an athlete or played any sports growing up.)

3 convenient locations, world champions as instructors (where else will you find this?), sparring and various weapons training, detailed, excellent and prompt customer service and simply just a GREAT PLACE TO BE A PART OF. If you are not sure about this, just come by to one of the schools and check it out. :)

Was lucky to find the school during the Camp and School Fair pre-covid. We decided to let my 4yo try it and he ended up loving it! When SIP began, he lost interest trying to follow the virtual classes. When I shared this challenge, Ms. Baker immediately offered to help him with private lessons to get him back on track. Ms. Lee has been awesome as well! She really inspires him to be better, and the school's overall safety practices has been great! Now they have started outdoor classes for limited number of students too. Highly recommended!

My company had East West Kung Fu come to our location and host a self defense seminar. The class was great. We learned several techniques and how to protect ourselves in case of an attack. The instructors were positive, outgoing and professional. I would recommend the introduction course to anyone.
