I really hate to row, but I really need to increase the amount of cardio that I do. I decided to try this studio on Classpass and I really was pleasantly surprised.
BJ was a great instructor. Technique and form were both closely monitored and corrected if needed. BJ incorporated strength training and some super creative core work on the rower into the class. It really was a full body workout. I look forward to my next class with them!
There are showers, but the studio and the lobby space are incredibly small.
PS. There are lockers! Also, note that the address listed is their old location.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - P M.New York, NY162364Jul 3, 2021
I wish places like this had the courtesy for their former clients to update their FB pages if not websites letting us know their open/closed/out-of-business status. It's a rough time for small businesses but that doesn't mean they shouldn't show respect for the clients that supported them.

This was my first time rowing/taking a rowing class and the instructor, Tiana, was very welcoming and made sure I maintained the correct form throughout the class. The class itself is a nice workout, but I would say it is a nice addition to your usual workout routine as I felt it wasn't enough to be the only workout sequence (at least for my personally!). The 50 minute class flew by and it was nice to be able to get off the rower to work a bit of arms, legs, and abs as well.
The studio is one of the more modest studios I've been to with only two changing rooms and a restroom across the small hallway. There are only cubbies and no lockers, but there is only one class happening at once so there isn't too much foot traffic throughout the studio so I don't mind leaving my stuff in a cubby vs a secured locker. There are no showers, but there are small wipes for you to wipe yourself down with I think?? Overall, the facility was very clean and the people were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this studio if you don't care to shower after the class!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2796202Jan 28, 2018
Andre was bomb! The music was great, he was super upbeat! I know working on a Sunday can be a drag but his energy was there which helped bring my energy into class as well! This is my second rowing class, but first time at this studio and what I particularly liked was that we didn't do any workouts on the floor or on a mat but instead used the rowing machine to target our core. This made for a more challenging workout as you're forced to engage your core to keep the seat from the machine stable.
I wish I remembered the name of the client relations woman behind the desk. She was super friendly and spoke with me the entire time before the class started. She gave me the up and up on scheduling and the styles of different instructors.
I left the studio feeling like I can tackle anything and everything on this gloomy Sunday afternoon. Will definitely be back soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Connie L.New York, NY36376213Dec 16, 2018
East End Row is my favorite place to go for rowing.
I love that they have WaterRowers, which is my preference over the Concept 2.
The instructions are friendly and help you with form. The workout also has some weights and exercises utilizing the rower to give you a break from the cardio. The rowing is broken out into segments and really makes you push yourself.
They recently moved to 61st street. The studio feels a little tighter but the classes are just as great and now they have showers.
Highly recommend booking a class with Brandon as he's super motivating and has a killer playlist!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Eva K.Manhattan, NY1114Jul 16, 2019Updated review
I loved the old location on the UES . The space was cozy and very welcoming. It was also 1 block away from my apartment so I bought a package of 10 pack classes in September 2018 just to learn a week later they were moving 12 blocks away. They never mentioned that before they ran the "special package" but It was advertised as a much better facility. I figured I'd give it a chance but it's a dump. I asked for a refund based on the fact that they never advertised they were moving so far away and they refused.
Instructors are great but this was a very obvious case of fraudulent advertising. Save your money and go to Go Row or CityRow.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 5, 2018Previous reviewLove Brandon and Dana! They are great motivators. Very efficient workout- lots of calories burned in less than an hour.

Came here with Classpass unsure what to expect. Never taken a rowing class before and haven't really had any experience with lifting or any other type of strength training. Everyone was really welcoming and the check in process at the front desk was really straight forward.
It's a great studio with maybe 10 or so machines in a small room. They have showers, changing rooms, and a bathroom. The location is pretty small so you have to squeeze past people in the hallway but that's just kinda expected for a small studio in Manhattan.
The rowing class itself was fantastic as well. Great for all levels! The instructor was helpful at checking in with me as a first timer and making sure my form was good.
Definitely planning on coming again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kitty W.Ridgewood, NJ333488917Jun 5, 2018
Rowing classes are BORING no matter what people say. There's only so much you can do on a row machine even when you have an instructor pushing you. But things are a little different at East End Row. Four stars only because the facility is located in a residential-like building and there's no amenities + lockers. I get sketched out easily and putting my stuff in cubbies really bothers me, but it is what it is.
I love their water rowers compared to the C2 rowing machines you find at most gyms and other rowing classes like Rowhouse. The water rowers really exert the heck out of you. The water resistance gives little to no breaks and resistance changes depending on how you row.
BRANDON is an amazing amazing amazing instructor. He cares about form and looks out for every individual in the class. He's also extremely motivating without being overtly aggressive. And guys, that is so important because so many trainers/instructors in NYC quite frankly don't give a sh*t. He also makes class *fun* and incorporates a lot of upper body work with the rower itself + dumbbells. A little bit of lower body work as well with squats and all. Solid 5 for Brandon solely.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Joanna G.Manhattan, NY63193Jan 27, 2018
I left this workout and texted everyone I knew that sometime in their lifetime, they need to take a rowing class here. This class was one of the best workout classes that I've ever had. Brandon was my instructor and he was FABULOUS.
I arrived a minute or two late and I had never rowed before and it was quite clear immediately to Brandon. So he immediately came over and gave me a quick intro on how to row properly and what all of the numbers on my screen meant - so so helpful and I am so appreciative of any instructor who takes the time to explain things to newcomers. The class is NOT just all rowing. There's a lot of intervals with squats, free weights, stretching, etc. Such a great, fun, and interesting workout that was not intimidating whatsoever. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to try something new other than your regular yoga or spin class.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kathy M.Manhattan, NY390123149Feb 21, 2018
The workout here is fantastic, but the facilities fall short. They only have changing rooms and one bathroom, but offer wipes for you to "clean" yourself after working out. Not terrible, but unfortunately limits you to coming here when you have nowhere else to go after.
The most important part, the workout, was both challenging and really fun. Andre brought the energy and was so friendly. There were a few beginners in the class and he was thorough in demonstrating the proper form. There were a few sprints and free weight work to break up the class. Would definitely incorporate East End Row into my workout routineHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
