I have been to several yoga studios across the DMV over the years and I must say, Dragonfly is my favorite. The sense of community is strong from the moment I walk in the door. Every front desk associate I have met so far greeted me with kindness. Every instructor I have met so far has showed interest in my practice and needs for modification during particular postures. I prefer the hot studio because the heat helps warm up my muscles faster, which personally helps me prevent injuries. Though, I still take caution, as for some, heated classes can cause injury if you are not careful. I have also enjoyed classes at the main studio with Alanna and Phil. Both studios have beautiful artwork throughout providing a sense of comfort and liveliness.
Compared to other studios, I have found Dragonfly to be very organized. At the hot studio, every time I enter, I am checked in by the front desk, provided a clean hand towel, and informed on which props are necessary for the class. They provide blocks and straps for free if you don't have your own. I believe they also have mats and towels for rent. I like to arrive early so I can get a good spot and prepare my body for the heat. A few minutes before the class begins, the teacher will come around with essential oils for my wrists, and sometimes provide an outline of what to expect during the class.
I have frequently joined the multi-level flow classes at the hot studio. I have found this class to be an excellent way for beginners to learn about yoga and experienced yogis to challenge themselves in new ways. My favorite part of the flow class is the cue for the ending savasana. During that time, prefer to meditate with a quiet mind and find drishti. I also love the cool towel at the end, however, I tend to place it on the back of my neck instead of over my face. In the last couple of classes I took with Elsa and Tara, the end of savasana was cued by a lovely meditation bell. I found this to be very effective in coming out of a deep meditative state. I also found it helpful to end this pose in unison with the class. Instead of my savasana ending with the sound of a spray bottle, it ended with guidance and beautiful mantras.
Taking classes at Dragonfly has inspired me to be more consistent with my practice. I have not been able to determine who my favorite instructor is yet because they have all been fantastic so far, and I have gratitude for each and every one of them! I look forward to meeting more people in this community and sharing my practice with others who also find joy in the physical, mental, and spiritual freedom of yoga.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 227228253Dec 20, 2021116 check-ins
I have been doing yoga sporadically for the past five or six years, but with the pandemic, needed to focus on myself more-- mind, body, spirit and all. A friend and I decided instead of walking 5k once a week we should do yoga for the cold winter months, and started going to Jess's Sunday morning Multi Level Flow. I was a little intimidated because it says multi level, not ALL level, but I am usually able to survive! Jess has the most soothing voice as she cues you from one posture to the next, which is ironic, because 85% of the time you'll be dripping sweat from the glorious intensity! I get like 30-45 minutes of "fat burning zone" each class, according to my FitBit, and burn between 500-750 calories during the 75 minutes. It's not what my preferred type of yoga has been, I'm all about Yin, but for some reason, I love this flow. I am not strong, I have no balance, but I'm decently flexible. I hate to sweat, but I adore this class, this teacher and this space so much that I signed up for the membership. I schedule out two weeks in advance to insure I get a spot in class, because it will end up getting waitlisted! I feel like I struggle through the class, but I don't even feel self conscious about it. By the time I'm at the ending savasana I'm (in my head) patting myself on the back for accepting the challenge of this class, and pushing myself just as far as my body allows. Then I don't even feel guilty about what I eat at brunch ;-)
I previously would drive down to Fxb to take Dori's and Kelsey's yin classes when they were at another studio, so now I take Dori's yin on Tuesday nights, as well. I work during all of Kelsey's classes, unfortunately. I love a slow paced class, it's a completely different kind of yoga, but it's just as amazing. Dori guides you and does the full practice along with you every week. She usually runs over the scheduled time for the class, but you wouldn't realize it because you'll be so relaxed! I am actually planning on taking her Beginners class next week, because I want to bring a friend to my Sunday morning class, but they aren't familiar with yoga enough , yet, so I told them we could do a beginners class to get them acclimated before trying out a vinyasa flow.
I have tried out a couple of other classes that were also fantastic, but I haven't gone as consistently as the other two classes, so I can't comment too much on them. I'm really enjoying the unlimited membership, it's helping me remember how much I love yoga, which I haven't been consistent with for the past three years. I love that I am getting my groove back, so to speak, and at a studio where I feel comfortable, have encouraging instructors, kind staff and owner, and meet new yogis every week.
I highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christine S.Englewood, CO1181Jun 11, 2022

I LOVE dragonfly! I started coming here about a year ago for hot yoga classes, and I have honestly have nothing negative to say about it. Every class has been a wonderful experience. Each instructor has their own styles of teaching, which I personally enjoy because I feel like I am able to learn more. The all levels hot yoga classes is truly for all levels-this is the class I started off with and still go to today. If you are just beginning your practice, don't hesitate! The instructors will provide modifications during the class and everyone is really friendly. For the more advanced yogis- there are intermediate hot yoga classes during the week, that provide more challenging poses.
The hot yoga classes do fill up (especially during the winter) so I would recommend reserving a spot online at least a day before!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Frederick M.Fredericksburg, VA04Oct 17, 2021

Went for my first class at this studio this morning and loved it. The studio is nice, spacious and calming. The instructor was also knowledgeable, calming and inspiring. Left feeling totally blissed out. I will be back for more :) It looks like a nice diverse schedule of classes as well spread out over two different studio spaces. Excellent!

Anne made it easy to understand what to do. It was helpful having her explain "feel the pressure on the inside of your foot" etc. That helped me guage if i was doing the movement right. I've also gone to carlys classes on friday evenings and i leave completly relaxed and restored. I went the friday after my miscarriage and it was so therapeutic. I cried through out the entire session but it was a release i needed and i felt so safe there to express myself.

I loved each and every class I attended at Dragonfly Studio. Each instructor is knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and they are the kindest people. They will go out of their way to make sure your form is appropriate and to will help you figure out how to make sure that your practice is what you want it to be.
We moved last month, and I feel that I will have a hard time finding a local studio that will even come close to Dragonfly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
