Blo Blow Dry Bar

After a competitor blowout biz told me they were booked up on a recent Friday, I called this Blo location with 48 hours notice... and they were able to squeeze me in!

Sierra was my stylist and she was super friendly and did a great job...

I find getting a blow out makes such a difference in how I feel and my visit to Blow was no exception. It's a pricey way to pamper yourself, but if you can swing it, this place won't disappoint!

Also, the vibe inside is pretty laid back and fun... and their wifi works too!

My cousin and I had a fantastic "hair," experience at The Blow Out Bar recently, and it's all thanks to Wally and Sierra. They truly worked their magic on our hair!

Both were not only super skilled but also had a great eye for what style would suit us best. They listened to our requests, offered professional advice, and the results were just amazing - left the place feeling like a million bucks!

Wally and Sierra are STARS, and I'd definitely recommend asking for them.

However, there's a bit of room for major improvement at the front desk. The receptionist wasn't so friendly; in fact she was kinda sour. We got there early and asked her directions to the nearest car wash. Something that we thought a local person would know if they were working and living in the area. She just responded a flat no, looked annoyed and went back to looking at the computer screen in front of her.

We were stunned by her lack of wanting to engage.

I suggest a lot more training or local knowledge could really help in providing a more rounded and helpful service to customers that are visiting town.

Only giving it 3 stars as the front facing receptionist is the face of your brand and if that's not up to par then perhaps a professional training in customer service for the front desk receptionist would help turn this into a solid 5 star experience all around!

The dry bar was clean; however unfriendly at checkin. My daughter and I were there for an event in the evening. The young guy that did my hair was very kind and listened to what I wanted. My hair did not keep its curl by the evening, I had to redo before the event. My daughter's hairstylist was rude and my daughter's hair didn't even last 20 minutes. Would not recommend going to this place. Waste of money.

I was visiting Austin for a friend's wedding and I usually go to Dry Bar for special occasions, but I waited too late and they were fully booked up. I looked online and found Blo, which I'd never heard of before but I was excited to see they also do makeup so I went ahead and booked both.

Due to timing I had to book makeup first then hair which I was super wary about, but Abi did a great job of avoiding splashing my face and she gave me a little plastic shield to protect my makeup too.

When I first sat down with Roxanne I was super intimidated because she asked me what kind of makeup I wanted and I was just like umm...there are different kinds...?? With zero judgment she chatted with me about what type of look I wanted and I showed her my dress and she recommended some colors to go well with it. I got so many compliments on my makeup both during and after the wedding that I'm a little offended because my friends clearly think (ok, they know) that I can't do my own makeup properly

Abi was equally communicative and accommodating. We talked about how my super straight and very thick hair hates holding curls, and she made different suggestions and had a lot of ideas about how to make sure my hair would stay curled through the evening. Again I got tons and tons of compliments on my hair but this one I'm not even remotely offended by because it's absolutely true I don't know how to curl my own hair.

The next morning I headed to Vegas, and my hair still had some very cute bounce to it! (Last pic). Don't mind the fact that the only pic I took with my makeup free face was at the Hello Kitty Café lol

Unfortunately I looked it up and there aren't any Blo Bars near me but I'll have to keep this chain in mind for future events in other areas! Huge thank you to Roxanne and Abi for making my first Blo experience so great, and for making me feel beautiful for my friend's wedding!!

TLDR; I've been to this location MANY times and had a horrible experience on my most recent visit - I will not be returning ever again because of the extremely poor customer service and complete lack of decency I encountered from the manager.

Outlining my experience:
- I had an 8:15am appointment for a blow dry on Friday, and when I walked in, the manager told me she changed my stylist and was going to have the new employee do my hair for "practice" because it would be a "challenge" with my curly hair and that she would shadow her
- I was kind enough to let the new girl practice on my hair even though I was in a hurry; It typically takes me 45 min to get my hair done.
- 30 minutes into my blow dry, I received an urgent call that I had to take from a family member telling me my Aunt passed away (a 40-second call)
- 30 minutes after that, I received another call (less than a minute) I had to take regarding the same matter. (My hair should've already been done at this point). However, this time when I hung up, the manager rudely told me to get off my phone because they were fully booked.
- I was obviously upset because of the rude tone of the manager, but I let the girl finish my hair; the manager never came to check on us and never shadowed her
- She finally finished my hair at 9:50am- it took an hour and a half, and it was not at all the beachy waves I asked for. There were still bumps and curls at my roots. I did not have any more time or energy to waste
- I checked out, tipped my stylist even though I was unhappy with how it turned out, and turned to the manager to explain to her why I had to take the call. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she didn't mean to come off that way - I told her, "I've been to this location many times, I never use my phone, but this was an emergency because I found out that my Aunt died. I understand that you have a business to run, but I'd recommend leading with empathy because you don't know what someone might be going through," and her response was, "But we're fully booked today".

That response told me everything I needed to know about this person and is exactly why I will not be visiting this location ever again. There are plenty of other blow dry bars in Austin, like Blast or Drybar, where you can get a beautiful blowout with better service.

Always a great experience. Gina was wonderful, and I highly recommend. Spent less than an hour and have great hair that will last several days with minimal care. Thanks!

I love Blo in Miami but I flew into Austin last minute and they accommodated me for an early Saturday appointment. Love Love this location!!! 5th St and a huge gorgeous space. Parking is free in the garage no street meter fuss. Everyone was so freaking amazing and friendly, I mean it is Austin. I can't thank them enough for blowing out and curling my hair so perfectly, I will definitely be back again!! Thank you
