I read Barbara's review and decided to give BJB Therapeutic Massage Center a try from LivingSocial. We know how some of their deals can be, as well as massage centers (hit or miss), so I really didn't have much expectation. Brenda was really nice and friendly and just the initial chat with her gave me really high hopes. Within the first 10 minutes of the massage, I knew I'd be coming back regularly as an athlete. She knows just the right amount of pressure and also where to massage you to get to those nasty knots that's been bugging you.
Aside from the massage, I wanted to praise her that she didn't overwhelm me with conversation nor was she so quite that she was hard to converse with. She really was the perfect balance for what I was searching for.
Brenda deserves to have her business praised more here on Yelp - that's what lead me to her.

Scheduled three appointments with this therapist and she cancelled on me three times right before our session, very unprofessional, you can tell she doesnt want to see anyone with a purchased package or groupon. Very selfish business owner.

I am writing this update because I'm not exactly thrilled with what occurred at my last massage appointment. Since my first review everything had been great- i finished out my package of 5 massages and then purchased another package of 5. These packages were all at a specific price based on what i can afford and what is proper payment for a massage. (and i always tip at about 20-30%) I have continuously paid one specific price for a massage multiple times over and over again.
Long story short my masseuse might have been leaving so I was going to go with my masseuse wherever she went AND stay with Ms Brenda to get regular massages. I called and had to pester the secretary to make sure I still could book an appointment for yesterday and Ms Brenda called me and explained they would figure things out with my masseuse later but I could come in, they made time for me, and i would be taken care of. I asked how the payments would work, and she said don't worry- we'll take care of you and work it out when you get here. I asked about paying again and buying packages and she said she would be available to speak after the massage and we could work from there.
Yesterday I went in to get my massage and as I'm laying down getting ready for my massage (mind you my back is killing me) I am informed that the price for today is $40 more than what i usually pay. (Out of respect for Ms Brenda's business i will not disclose my deal amount or the amount i was charged) but the point is, I was charged $40 more than normal. Of course I'm already on the bed and my back hurts so I asked my masseuse to please continue and I would just suck it up and pay that price.
Here's my issue: If I'm a repeat customer, who is more than prepared to drop $300 that night to continue getting massages EVEN if i go elsewhere for my migraines specifically (because i know Ms Brenda is great at massage too) why would you try to charge me an extra $40?
I just think that if I've paid a specific amount 10-12 times over...that when i arrive I will get the same customer service and treatment as always. But apparently because it was assumed this was my last session at this business, i feel like i got overly charged than my regular amount. I guess in the fine print she can charge me that amount because she never quoted me anything on the phone...but still. If I pay X amount 12 times in a row, is it wrong to assume time number 13 should be any different? Well I guess it is.
I am sure the massages are great by all the other masseuses but just be sure to buy all your massages at once or in bulk weeks in advance so you don't find yourself on the bed in pain having to pay an extra $40 more than usual for a one-off situation.
I know these reviews mean a lot to a business so to be respectful and tactful i'm giving this review update a 4 star...but being respectful is the only reason it's not 3 star.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 14, 2014Previous reviewSo tonight I went for a massage at BJB Therapeutic Massage after purchasing a Living Social Deal and it was FAR ABOVE any expectations I could have had. This was better than any massage I've ever had!
I originally bought the massage and called right away expecting to be booked in a month because most places are booked and super busy- nope, Brenda Brown booked me the next week and then asked about my schedule. This is also something that makes it hard for me to get massages, I work until 7pm every night but to my surprise she told me she has another therapist, Penny Arthur, who comes in on Monday nights and can do massages until 10pm. WOW!
So I booked a 7:45pm appointment for tonight and arrived 5 minutes late (I wound up going to her old office I guess) but quickly filled out my health form and explained how i have awful headaches almost every day and one really bad migraine once a week and it's been this way for years. I explained that I have noticed that the headaches go away after a massage for a week or so and that was why I was visiting her. She said she completely understood, and then I was promptly taken into the massage room by Penny.
This is where it gets good, Penny asked me where I needed the most help and what hurt the most, so I asked if she could just focus on my neck and shoulders as that is where all my knots and tension are. She then proceeded to spend 30-45 minutes just on my neck and the base of my head and worked at each knot until it relaxed. She had the perfect mix of knowing when to apply pressure and knowing when to be gentle. She told me she had taken a special class on how to treat headaches with massage and that is exactly what she was doing with me. I have never had someone focus that much on my problem areas and by the end of the massage i was jello. My neck has never felt this good before...and thats coming from someone who has had plenty of massages. (I would say about 10-15)
After my massage I walked out of the room to thank Penny for doing such a phenomenal job and to thank Brenda for taking such great care of me....now if you read nothing else on this review READ THIS:
Brenda proceeded to explain to me that my headaches could be treated by the massage but I had some problem areas and she suggested I needed follow up with Penny. I agreed. She then did something no one else has ever done, she said "ok, well let's talk about what works for you. What do you think you need and let's figure out a price point that is affordable but also gets you treated.This isn't about the money- i don't want you to worry about affording this because you need it, what can we do to make that happen for you?"
I WAS ASTOUNDED. She really cared about me...I could sense it. It was then I decided to buy 5 more sessions and pay them all up front. I made sure Penny got a well deserved tip and I expressed my thanks over and over to both beautiful women. I am proud to say I will be going back to Brenda and Penny for a long time to come and I would not be surprised if I make them a regular part of my schedule. I swear, these massages given by these women are worth every penny and it's such an amazing experience as a whole. I finally can go to sleep relaxed and pain free. And I can't wait for next Monday!!!

I purchased a massage voucher and had scheduled the appointment for later this month. Today I received a call saying that the therapist wouldn't be available on the date I'd scheduled. I checked their website and found nothing until the expiration date of the voucher that would work with my schedule, with any of their therapists. Fortunately I was able to get the issuer of the voucher to refund my money. Based on the excellent views expressed here, I am sure it would have been nice to go here. But it's not really fair that I had to miss out due to something that wasn't my fault. Lesson learned: book earlier next time!

I've gone to Brenda for 15 years and couldn't live without seeing her several times a month. She's experienced, expert, and congenial. She knows all the massage methods and can adjust to whatever your preference is. More pressure, less pressure, problem spots -- she can do it all. Not to mention she is one of the sweetest people on the planet. Don't miss being super-relaxed and rejuvenated. She's the best.

Brown enough for her skills as a professional, reliable and supremely competent massage therapist. Her relaxation techniques are flawless. She offers a complete range of services. She is very accommodating if you prefer a home visit, flexible in scheduling and reasonably priced for the high level of her expertise. Prior to finding Brenda I used a massage therapist in Maryland who was good, yes, but charged a third more per session. She's also a good human. Please try her service.

She asked me to come back in and give them another chance, and I did, and I'm so glad I did! Brenda is very kind and very good at what she does. I got an amazing and relaxing massage, and felt great afterwards!

Very good massage. Vanessa was friendly and very skilled. I will go back. My only suggestion for management is to make it more straight forward upon arrival. I had no idea who was in charge or where to wait. Other than that it was all well worth the price.

I love this place! I've been getting wonderful massages from Brenda for years now. She is reliable, friendly, and most importantly great at what she does. I received prenatal massages from Brenda throughout both of my pregnancies and now I frequently get swedish and deep tissue massages for relaxation, stress relief, and neck and back pain.
Vanessa is fantastic! If you want a excellent deep tissue massage, book an appointment with her! She will work out all those knots and tight spots with precision and ease. I went to see her because I had a terrible sinus headache and within 1/2 hour I could breathe again! She knows what she is doing. Vanessa also does prenatal massages. I teach prenatal yoga and I always tell my students about the benefits of massage and recommend BJB Therapeutic Massage Center to them.
